Mr. Louis Edward McKinney
March 26, 1936 - January 9, 2017
On January 9, 2017, Louis Edward McKinney succumbed to a long and valiant battle with cancer. Louis never let this disease keep him from being with the ones he loved and doing the things he enjoyed most.
Louis was born in Clover VA on March 26, 1936. He served his country as a Specialist Four in the US Army during the 1950ís. He later had a rewarding career in the Automotive Sales Industry and Mortgage sales. His career started in Richmond VA which later led him to Tidewater where he resided for 45 years in VA Beach. Though he was successful in his career, Louisís true passions were in his love for his family, youth baseball, politics and animals. Louis was very active for many years in Kempsville PONY Baseball and served in many roles over the years for that organization. Louis was also a tireless volunteer and long standing member of the Republican Party of Virginia Beach. For many years, he worked the polls for his favorite candidates and the RPVB. He was also a longtime member of the Humane Society and adopted many cats from local shelters during his lifetime.
Louis also enjoyed attending the 8:30 services at Thalia United Methodist Church with his family and was an active participant with the Thalia United Methodist Men for many years. He was the son of the late Grace Bell Vasser McKinney Noblin and Jacob Edward McKinney. He was predeceased by his brother, Roy Alton McKinney. Louis is survived by his wife of 47 years Mary Alice Mills McKinney, his sons: Louis Edward McKinney, Jr., Mark L. McKinney (wife - Michelle), Jonathan M. McKinney (wife - Heather) and daughter, Yvonne McKinney Kramp (husband - Ken), and by his 5 grandchildren: Haley, Cameron, Austin, Taylor, and Kadin.
A graveside funeral will be held on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at 2pm at Crestview Memorial Park, 18599 Hwy. One North, LaCrosse, VA 23950. There will also be a memorial service in celebration of the life of Louis Edward McKinney held at Thalia United Methodist Church in Virginia Beach on Friday, January 20, 2017 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Louis to Thalia UMC, 4321 Virginia Beach Blvd., Virginia Beach, VA 23452. Online condolences may be sent through www.crowderhitecrews.com.
