Mrs. Mary Lou Morrison
April 17, 1942 - March 24, 2017

Mary Lou (Lilly) Morrison, 74, of Palmer Springs, Virginia passed away March 24, 2017 at her home in Palmer Springs, Virginia after an eight year battle with Alzheimerís Disease. Mary Lou was born in Beaver, West Virginia on April 17, 1942. She graduated from Shady Spring High School in Beaver, West Virginia, Class of 1960, and attended Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents Cartha and Mary Lilly of Beaver, West Virginia. She leaves behind her husband Howard of 56 years; two daughters, Penny Morrison-Ross (Bill) of Marietta, Georgia and Sonya Morrison Weaver(Jeff) of Phenix, Virginia; four grandchildren, Will Ross and Shea Ross-Smith (John) both of Atlanta, Georgia, Christian Barry of Richmond, Virginia and Grace Marie Barry of Blacksburg, Virginia; one great grandson, Jackson Ross Smith of Atlanta, Georgia; a sister Susan Davis of Palmer Springs and a brother Dick(Donna) of Shelby, North Carolina. Mary Lou worked for the Department of Agriculture and the Department of the Navy and retired in 1994 after 20 years with the Mitre Corporation in McLean, Virginia. She was an avid gardener and artist and studied with several recognized artists. After retirement, she volunteered for the Ladies Auxiliaries of both the Palmer Springs Volunteer Fire Department and the VCU CMH Hospital. She loved music and was a member of the choir at Bethesda Baptist Church. She and Howard enjoyed participating in craft shows where she did all the finishing work because she had such a great eye for what people appreciated. Mary Lou loved all animals and provided care for a feral cat colony for many years before she became ill. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Palmer Springs Volunteer Fire Department, Bethesda Baptist Church or CMH Foundation/Hospice. Mary Louís family also wishes to thank the Family Support Program at Duke University. Each of these organizations were monumentally helpful along this journey. A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held April 1, 2017, 11:00am at the Bethesda Baptist Church, Palmer Springs, Virginia. Visitation with the family will be at 10:00am or at the luncheon in the Fellowship Hall immediately following the service.
