Mary Ruby Cook passed away peacefully, October 5, 2017, surrounded by family. Ruby was born May 10, 1931 to Mary Jenny Royster Vaughan and DC Vaughan of Brookneal, Virginia and was the widow of William Howard Cook. She is survived by her son, Eddie Morrison (Peggy) of Blackridge, four daughters: Diane C. Bowers, Gail C. Wilson and Renee C. Moore (Keith) all of South Hill and Stacey C. Gatti (Sandra) of Ashland and her nephew DT Vaughan (Kathy) of South Hill.
She is also survived by her fourteen grandkids: Kathy, Jeromy, Troy, Bobby,
Bryan (Ann), Krystal, Devin, Taylor, Casey (Joe), Jonathan, Heather (Caige), Amber (Adam), Kassidy, and Austin and seventeen great grandchildren: Miranda, TJ, Hailey, Shyann, Cameron, Kaleigh, Ava, Devin, Lainey, Kinsley, Raylan, Skylar, Jordan, Caylen, Blakely, Brysen, and Presley and a special family friend, Kathy Kirby. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers: Shirley Vaughan and JD Vaughan, a sister, Elsie VanDyke and her grandson, Trevor Wade Wilson. Ruby will be remembered for her gentle touch, sense of humor, and devotion to her family. She is known and respected in the community for her love for children, as she spent over thirty years providing childcare to many kids in the local area. All those who knew and loved her will cherish the memories of Ms. Mary Ruby Cook. A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday October 7th at 11:00 A.M. in Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory with interment to follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6:30 until 8:00 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Southside Rescue Squad at P.O.
