Mrs. Margaret Brittian Stephenson
June 5, 1953 - April 23, 2018

Mrs. Margaret Lucille Brittian Stephenson, age 64, a long-time Mechanicsville resident, died peacefully in her sleep on April 23rd at her Lake Gaston home. She was the daughter of the late Mildred and Jessie Brittian and was raised in Highland Springs. Margaret was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was the heart of her home Ė a home where everyone and every pet was always welcome. Margaret was a kind and generous soul who never hesitated to help a friend or neighbor in need. Not content to care just for family and friends, Margaret spent many years as an employee of Hanover County Public Schools making sure the students of Washington Henry Elementary and Atlee High Schools were well fed. Margaret is survived by her husband of 45 years, Lawrence Stephenson as well as their two daughters: Christy Sheppard Bondurant and her husband Jason, and Jessica Stephenson Wrenn and her husband Jonathan. Margaret was a wonderful Nana to her grandchildren Bryce Sheppard and Samantha Sheppard with whom she shared a very close relationship. She was pre-deceased by her beloved sister Candy Morris, but survived by her brothers Jessie Brittian, Jr. and Danny Brittian, and her sister Cheri Barton as well as her mother-in-law Agnes Stephenson Reed and a special niece, Tiffany Harman. Many friends and extended family will miss Margaret and her warm, caring personality. And of course, she will be missed by Precious, her Chihuahua. A memorial service will take place on Monday, April 30th 3 pm at Bennettís Funeral Home in Mechanicsville and the family will receive friends afterward at Mechanicsville Church of Christ. With Margaretís passing, the world has lost someone of genuine Christian goodness and old-fashioned neighborliness. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Margaretís memory should visit an old friend, check-in on a neighbor (take some banana bread with you), snuggle with a puppy, enjoy a home-cooked dinner with family, or donate to the charity of your choice.
