Alice graduated from Park View High School in South Hill and in 1971 earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Virginia. She then went on to earn a†Masterís Degree in Nursing from the University of North Carolina preparatory to becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner.† Alice loved to learn and appreciated the opportunities education afforded her, and she made the most of them.†Alice married John Edward Upton, who had 5 children: John Jr. (Dorothy Smeljes), Francis (Douglas Bishop), Mary (Frank Barnett), Ted (Pat Mays), & Cora (Julian....). Alice loved her sons and taught them well. She made sure everyone was washed up, dressed and at church on Sunday morning and that everyone understood Sunday lessons applied to life Monday through Saturday as well on Sunday.† Alice loved playing with her family, taking her boys to the lake, going on picnics, dancing with John, traveling, and singing. She loaded her home with pictures of her children, her grandchildren, and her great & great-great grandchildren.†Alice leaves behind her husband Floyd " Bill" Bilbo, 4 sons†and their wives (she is predeceased by her son Steve), 30 precious grandchildren, and a beautiful array of great and great-great grandchildren whom she loved dearly. Alice made the world a better place, she brought light, love, hope, and a sweet spirit to all who knew her.† We mourn her here on earth, but the spirits in heaven are rejoicing that she is with them now.
