Herman Jones

02/15/1940 - 04/21/2019

Obituary:

On Easter Sunday, April 21, 2019, surrounded by family, at VCU Community Memorial Hospital, Herman Jones gained his angel wings. He was greeted by his Lord and savior, his parents: Thomas Gilbert Jones and Sallie Laura Rooker Jones and his sisters and brothers: Ladd, Macon, Plum, Johnnie, Bernice, Ada and Virgie. He was born February 15, 1940, in South Brunswick, VA. He always joked about he was bringing us snow for his birthday and most of the time there was at least a few flurries that week. He grew up part of his younger years in Gasburg and the rest in Ebony, VA. He soon met and married the love of his life, his wife of 56 years, Jane Hall. He enlisted and served in the U.S. Army / Army National Guard. They lived and raised their two children; daughter Janet Lee Jones and Herman Eugene Jones in LaCrosse. Though he was a jack of all trades, he ran and owned his own construction business, Jones and Jones construction with his son for 20 years. He really enjoyed being outside, whether it was working his garden and flowers with his green thumb or going camping and fishing at the dam with his wife and family. Being with family was so important to him like many visits to his sister, Bernice’s home, telling the children stories of long ago or dancing to Blue Grass Music. George Jones was his favorite singer though. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Jane of the home, his daughter Janet and husband Charles Acree, his son Eugene, four grandchildren Lauren, Taylor , Lucas and Courtney, four great grandchildren, grand dog , Jaxson, and many nieces, nephews, sister and brother in-laws , cousins and friends, many of whom were more like his siblings, children and grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Drs. Tozzi and Graham Powers III and their staffs for years of care they gave him. As well as the Third floor staff at VCU.

Visitation will be held Tuesday evening 6-8 P.M. Funeral service will be Wednesday April 24, 2019, at 2 P.M. at Crowder Hite Crews Funeral Home, South Hill, VA. Burial to follow at Canaan Cemetery in Lacrosse.

  1. I am truly so sorry to hear of Herman passing. As a child ,I often heard my Dad speak of Herman as well as other cousins. I have always thought Herman’s mother, Miss Sallie, that’s what I called her as a child, was a sweet woman. She often reminded me of Aunt Becky. Through the years I have thought Herman looked and reminded me of his mother in many ways. I don’t recall meeting Herman’s dad as a child. I am sure Herman will truly be missed. My prayers are with his wife , Jane and the children , Janet and Eugene as well as the rest of the family. May God be with you at this time and throughout the years to come. As long as Herman is in each of your hearts ; he will continue to live on! God gained an angel!
