Samuel Ray Whitby

Obituary:

Samuel Ray Whitby, 70 of Prince George passed away on Monday, September 9, 2019 at Colonial Heights Health and Rehab. Mr. Whitby was the son of the late, Ray and Louise Whitby and grew up in Brodnax, Virginia. He retired from the Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice and also worked for 19 years at Poplar Springs Hospital. Mr. Whitby was an amateur astronomer, genealogist and poet. Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Uta Whitby; children Colleen Gorman (Jeff), David R. Whitby (Angelique) and Tyler B. Whitby; grandchildren Maxwell, Sailor, Kieran, Declan and Gavin; sister-in-law Rodessa Whitby; nephew Emmitt Whitby; and niece Juanita Howerton. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his brother, Randall Whitby. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday September 22nd at 3:00 P.M. in Sanford Memorial Baptist Church in Brodnax with burial to follow in the Whitby Family Cemetery. There will be a luncheon starting at 1:00 in the church social hall which will also be a time of visitation with the family.
