Mr. Herman Matthews Connell

Obituary:

Mr. Herman Matthews Connell, age 81, of South Hill, died on Saturday August 13, 2022. He was a United States Marine Reserve and a retired engineer for Norfolk and Southern Railroad with 47 years of service. Mr. Connell is survived by his wife, Betty A. Allgood of South Hill who have been together for 60 years; his son, Lee Connell of Freeman; his daughter, Jennifer Webb and her husband Robert of Powhatan; his sister, Millicent Caldwell of South Hill; his two granddaughters: Rachel Webb and Brittany Webb and his many loving nieces and nephews. Mr. Connell was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Blanche Connell; his sister, Carolyn Turner Olsen and his brother, Kenneth R. Connell. A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday August 17th at 2:00 P.M. in James Square Baptist Church, in Lawrenceville, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 in Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Connell’s name to the James Square Baptist Church Cemetery Fund at 9440 Christanna Highway, Lawrenceville, VA 23868.     May the good Lord wrap his arms around the family during this time. Hopefully they can find comfort in the stories and memories that I’m sure they have of him. Thank you for the laughs and goodtimes we had on the trains mornings, noon and night. Until me meet again
