04/12/1966 - 11/29/2022

Obituary:

Mr. Brent Elliot Richey, age 56, of Boydton, died on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 surrounded by his family at home. Brent was an Associate Professor at Southside Virginia Community College for over thirty years. Brent is survived by his wife of 24 years, Kimberly Richey of Boydton; his son, Luke Bryan Richey of Boydton; his two daughters: Rachel Anne Richey of Boydton and Elisabeth Grace Richey of Boydton; his brother, Bryan Richey and his wife Renee of Lynchburg; his mother, Madelyn Richey of Lynchburg; his nephew Jonathan Richey and wife Cassie (Jenny, Lainey, Jack Colson) of Lynchburg; his niece Heather Sprinkle and husband Preston (Maddie) of Gray, TN. Brent was preceded in death by his father, Colson Richey. Brent touched many lives over the years of serving his community, including working at SVCC where he worked as the Director of Financial Aid and Dean of Enrollment before going back into the classroom where he loved to teach math and talk to students. Brent also spent the past six years serving as a member of the Mecklenburg County School Board. His dedication to education and his community touched many lives, including those friends who were like family. Brent was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and served over the years as a Sunday school teacher and deacon, but he particularly enjoyed making breakfast for the deacons with the help of his children. His time at Tabernacle created lifelong friendships and the foundation for his children to love and serve the Lord. A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, December 3rd at 2:00 P.M. at Tabernacle Baptist Church. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 in Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory. Online condolences may be made through our website, www.crowderhitecrews.com. Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the Richey family.

I would like to at this time express my sincere appreciation in regards to being fortunate enough to meet Mr. Brent Richey. Believe me the short time that I met him was special. Mr. Richey was my statistics teacher and an actual pleasure to deal with. He was so kind and thoughtful. Believe it or not out of the years that I attended school he turned out to be the kmnicest professor that I have ever encountered. I pray that the Lord blesses him with peace as well as his entire family., I also want to tell his family how fortunate they are to have such a beautiful person to be a part of their lives..
My heart is very sad in regards to his passing and I only knew him for a short time.

To the family of Mr. Richey . I know you know how great he was . But I want to tell you God sent me to SVCC at the right time. Mr. Richey truly was a God sent man for a lot of us. He was so patient with me and he loved to help. One thing he met you where you were and he helped you to fulfill your purpose . He would never let you give up and he made math seem so easy. I told him always that he was a true blessing. I have refer many students to him and I was just thinking about taking statistics with him. Now is too late. But I will never forget him. Know that he is present with the Lord and praying for God’s peace that surpasses all understanding during your time of loss.
