Mr. Raymond Edward Hite, Sr.

07/17/1952 - 07/18/2019

Obituary:

Mr. Raymond Edward Hite, Sr. of Kenbridge, VA, passed away on Thursday July 18, 2019 after a brief illness with his wife of 50 years, Lynn Hite, by his side. In the words of Bruce Springsteeen, he “Lived a life where he did what he wanted to do and he let the chips, human and otherwise, fall where they may. He had unconditional love, which was very real and came with a lot of conditions.” Raymond was truly a self made man. He started his career with the railroad and transitioned into building homes as a self-employed contractor, which he did until his retirement. His greatest accomplishments were his four children: Raymond Hite, Jr. and his wife Susan of Kenbridge, Lance Hite and his wife Dennise of Richmond, Cassie Payne and her husband Charlie of Fredericksburg and Candace Barnette and her husband Jerry, Jr. of Kenbridge; his ten grandchildren: Raymond Edward Hite, lll, Mary Kathryn Hite, Sidney King, Karli Hite, Mary-Claire Hart, Lyla Hart, Libby Payne, Charlotte Barnette, Caroline Barnette and Jack Barnette; his brother, Francis Hite, Jr. and his wife Brenda of Richmond; two sisters: Mary Martha Butler and her husband Bill of Chesterfield and Theresa Gorman and her husband Mike of Tappahannock; two great-grandchildren and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Raymond was so proud of the legacy that lives on through his children and grandchildren. He adored every second with his family and friends. A funeral service will be held on Sunday July 21st at 2:00 P.M. in the Antioch United Methodist Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 in Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory. Raymond never met a stray cat or dog he didn’t want to help, therefore memorial contributions may be made to the Southside SPCA attn. Raymond E. Hite, Sr. at P.O. Box 66, Meherrin, VA 23954. Online condolences may be sent through our website at www.crowderhitecrews.com. Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the Hite family.

  1. Cousin of Lynn

    Lynn & Family. I’m so sorry for your loss. I pray you all can find comfort in knowing God needed Raymond in heaven for a reason that is unknown to us right now but will know in God’s time. Something God knew only Raymond could take care of. Must have been a very Special Man. God Bless You All.
    Love,
    Mike & Mary Kay Potochny ♥️

  2. I was so very sad to hear about Raymond’s death. He was a free spirit and I bet he and our beloved uncle, Dee Hite, another free spirit, are having a long talk about their past adventures in this life. Both men, too, had such kind hearts. Lynn and family, I am so sorry for your loss. You are all in my thought and prayers. My sincere condolences, too, to Mary Martha, Francis, Jr., Theresa, and your families. I hope memories of happier times and the love of family and friends will comfort you. Love – Lisa Rowley

  6. In Your Hour of Bereavement

    God saw him getting tired;
    He understood what we could not see,
    So He put His arms around him and whispered,
    “Raymond, it’s time. Come to me.”

    Candace, with teary eyes you watched him;
    Lynn, you saw him pass away,
    And although you both dearly loved him,
    You simply could not make him stay.

    Yes, a golden heart stopped beating Thursday,
    Weary hands are now at rest,
    And though it breaks your heart,
    Trust that God always knows best.

    Candace,

    You and Mrs. Hite have my sincerest sympathy. Please be reassured that you are very dear to my family and especially to me. I pray that you can find some comfort in just knowing that, at any time and for any reason, you can call on me. God gives us friends to lean on as we forge through the toils of life that we all, at some point, must face. This I most certainly know because you once walked a most toilsome road with me, and you never missed a step.

    With condolences and abounding love,

    Ronald “Kaipo” Morrison
