He was a retired Regional Marketing Director for Sentry Insurance and widower of Sherry L. Wrachford. He was a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church. He volunteered with many organizations, such as Helpful Hands and Hearts, Volunteers for Christ, and VCU Health Community Memorial Hospice. Every one of his family and friends knew they were special to him and considered him to be the best neighbor, best friend, best dad, and best “PaPa.”
He was the son of the late Richard and Deloris Wrachford.
Ed is survived by his sons: Timothy Wrachford of Austin, TX and Brian Senior (Shelby) of Chase City, VA, a daughter Melissa Wrachford also of Austin, TX, two sisters: Linda Patterson and Laura Osborne (Steve) both of Morgantown, WV, and three brothers: Richard Wrachford (Barbara) of Columbus, OH, Russell Wrachford (Joann) of Morgantown, WV, and Robert Wrachford (Denise) of Dunbar, PA. He is also survived by his four grandchildren: Michael Messenger of Oklahoma, Makala and Mariah Messenger, both of Abilene, TX, and Nathaniel Wrachford of Austin, TX, and many nephews and nieces.
The family will receive friends Thursday, November 8, 2018, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM, and a funeral service will be conducted Friday, November, 9, 2018, at 10:00 AM. Both visitation and funeral will be held at Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory.

  1. Ed was my grandfather. He was stern at times, and silly at others, and he always knew how to have a great time. He was a figure in my life that inculcated me with respect, a sense of duty, and most importantly, an obligation to help others selflessly, as he did. I love you PaPa, and I miss you so much.

  2. I had the pleasure of working with Ed at Sentry for a number of years, until he retired. He was always thoughtful, hardworking and a class act; an absolutely terrific man. I am so sorry for your loss.

  3. Ed sat with my husband’s cousin’s husband as a CMH Hospice volunteer.
He loved Ed and always was happy to spend some time with him. So very
sorry for his family’s loss. He was called Home at such a young age.

  4. Senior Agency Sales Manager, Sentry/Dairyland Insurance

Ed was my manager for a few years at Dairyland, but it felt like I had known him for much longer. During that time he became my friend and advisor. I count Ed among one of the best managers I’ve ever worked for. He was firm but fair, and he was certainly a kind person. He led people and managed things. Ed called me a few weeks ago to encourage me because he found out that I had just had open heart surgery. What makes this so difficult for me to comprehend is that he passed away from a heart issue as well. With all that said, I know Ed loved the Lord and I am absolutely certain he is with him now. That is my only comfort at this time. My prayers and thoughts go out to his family. Rest in peace my friend.

  5. Ed was a great friend and awesome boss to work far. Met Ed when he started with Dairyland, now Sentry. Staid friends after I retired . So glad He called me a few weeks ago. He was enjoying his work building ramps for people . He had a very giving heart. Taken too soo. RIP ED

  6. So very sorry for your loss. Ed was truly a kind, sweet man that I had the privilege to work with for many fond years. It breaks my heart that he was taken away so soon. Your family, friends and loved ones are in my thoughts and prayers.
