  2. WR, a true gentleman and the kindest person. A honor to know him and to have shared cherished memories with him, Judy, Jeff and Renee. He always had a smile, adored Judy, his daughters, grandchildren and was very grateful of others. He is forever at peace with his loves, Nell and Judy. Fly high WR.

  4. From Shipman to Father

As a Shipman in WWII, no man has ever served at sea without knowing that each day could be his last and no one would even know where at sea he lay. No man served a day at sea without the knowledge that the ship he sailed might not survive to sail another day. But no man at sea let these fears overcome him. He knew his shipmates were beside him to help stand the watch, to plot the course, and to be the family and support they all need to meet and survive another day. They were his shipmates. As each day ended, men at sea counted their blessings of a day well done, and to mark the end of their watch, they would toll the bell, the eternal mark of the passing of time at sea. We honor shipmate “Powell” as we toll the bell to mark the end of his final watch. Well done, well done. It was a great voyage, and you served your watch. We are proud to have you served and do your part as a shipmate in the United States Merchant Marine.
From Merchant Marine to Father, he taught me to drive my first car, he educated me, and he walked tall as I entered the recruiting station to serve my country. I will be forever in his debt.
You have completed your final watch Shipman Powell, now rest in peace.

  5. I HAD JUST ASKED SOMEONE THE OTHER DAY IF THEY KNEW ANYTHING ABOUT W. R. ONE OF THE NICEST PEOPLE I HAVE EVER KNOWN. MY MOTHER USED TO DO ALTERATIONS FOR THEM AT THE CLEANERS. I LOVED NELL AND JUDY BOTH AND THOUGHT THE WORLD OF W. R. I AM SAD FOR HIS GIRLS BUT HAPPY FOR HIM. MAY GOD BE WITH EACH OF YOU IN THE MONTHS AHEAD WITHOUT HIM. LOTS OF LOVE FROM MY HOME TO YOURS.
