Mr. Clarence Dewey "C.D." Harris, Jr.

Mr. Clarence Dewey “C.D.” Harris, Jr., of South Hill went to be with his Savior on Monday, June 3, 2024, joining the Heavenly celebration on his mother’s birthday on that day. He was 85 years old, born on December 14, 1938 and raised in a Christian home by his parents, Clarence Dewey Harris, Sr. and Loveline “Love” Overton Harris. As a young man he started his career in retail sales at Oakley’s Department Store in South Hill. Later he moved to Henderson, North Carolina and worked at J.C. Penney, Roth Stewart and Larry’s Shoe Store. He joined Peebles Department Store moving to Clarksville, Waverly and Chatham, Virginia. He also worked for Oakley and Lee in Kenbridge, Virginia for several years before he and his wife, Edith moved back to Henderson and they both worked at the Roses Corporate Office until his retirement. He was a kind and gentle soul that provided perfect customer service wherever he would go. He loved to sing in the choir and enjoyed it at many churches over the years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Edith Parham Harris. He is survived by his sister, Cynthia Harris Higgins; a niece, Jannon Hope Coley and her husband Chad and two great nieces: Mackenzie Hope Coley and Macie Harris Coley. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted on Friday June 7th at 11:00 A.M. in Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory with interment to follow in the Antioch Methodist Church Cemetery on Highway 138, Kenbridge, VA 23944. The family will be receiving family and friends after the service in the Antioch Methodist Church social hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mecklenburg County Cancer Association at P.O. Box 311, Chase City, VA 23924. Cynthia, Jannon and family, I’m so sorry to hear of C.D.’s passing. He was such a sweet and nice gentleman! He is pain free and rejoicing with his wife, Edith May and the rest of his family that has passed before him. We will keep you’ll in our prayers and love you!! Bonnie and Lawrence
