Jimmie K. Crowder

Jimmie K. Crowder

President & Co-Owner

Jimmie is President and CEO of operations and has been in funeral service since 1971. He was born and raised in South Hill and has served in various capacities within many of the local civic clubs; including, a long-time member of the Chamber of Commerce, past Chairman of the Southside Virginia Community College Board,as well as, past President of the South Hill Rotary Club, South Hill Lions Club and the South Hill Shrine Club. He also was a past assistant Governor of Rotary District 7600, a charter and life member of the Southside Rescue Squad, a charter member and past treasurer of the Friends of The R.T. Arnold Library board and the co-founder, along with his wife Becky, of the Mecklenburg County Public Schools “Lunch Buddy” program. Additionally, Jimmie currently serves on the County Highway Safety Commission and is past Chairman of the local Industrial Development Authority. Additionally, he is an honorary member of the South Hill Volunteer Fire Department and honorary member of the Lake Country Detachment 1085 Marine Corps League.

He holds funeral service licenses in both Virginia and North Carolina, and is a member of the National Funeral Directors Association. He is also a past president of the Virginia Funeral Directors Association as well as, Southside Funeral Directors Association.

Randolph began his 54 year funeral service career in 1971, including 41 years as co-owner here at Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home, retiring at the end of 2025. Having served his apprenticeship at E. Alvin Small Funeral Home in Colonial Heights, he then joined the team at the Joseph W. Bliley Funeral Homes in Richmond from 1972 until 1982; moving back to his home town area of South Hill in January 1982, where he partnered with Jimmie Crowder in 1984.

He is a former president of the Southside Virginia Funeral Directors Association, former president of Tanglewood Shores Homeowners Association, former vice-chair of Mecklenburg Co. Visionary Board, former director of Friends of the R.T. Arnold Library, former board member of South Hill Chamber of Commerce, former organizational member of the Community Memorial Hospice, and coached twelve years of South Hill Dixie Youth Baseball. He currently is Vice President of the Buggs Island Telephone Cooperative Board, member of the Mecklenburg County Highway Safety Council,  president of the Bracey Community Center, trustee for Kingswood United Methodist Church, serves on the Virginia Funeral Directors Association sponsorship committee, member of both South Hill and Lake Gaston Chambers, and is a Notary Public.

Randolph has been married to his wife Kaye since 1976 and they have two children and four grandchildren and reside in his hometown of Bracey.

Jimmie, Jr. is Vice President of operations and has been with our firm since 1993. Born and raised in South Hill, he is the son of co-owner Jimmie Keith Crowder and the late Becky Crowder. Having spent his formative years assisting with the firm, he has received a life-time of experience for care, which he provides to the families we serve.

He received his Applied Science Degree from John Tyler College and holds funeral service license in both Virginia and North Carolina; is a Certified Crematory Operator and a Notary Public for the state of Virginia.

In addition, he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Barton College, with a major in Music, and utilizes this passion as the Organist and Choir Director at the South Hill United Methodist Church.

Henry began his funeral service career back in1991 in his hometown of Chase City, where he and his wife Jenny reside . He is a Licensed Funeral Director in both Virginia and North Carolina, and also holds Licenses in insurance for Life, Health, Property & Casualty. He joins our team as a Co-Owner with experience including previous tenure of being Co-Owner at Newcomb Allgood Davis Funeral Home in Chase City, as well as, Managing Partner/DOO of Cremation Society of the Carolinas/ Capital Funeral Home in Raleigh.

Henry has been an active community member, including Past President of the South Hill Shriner’s Club and a Past President of the Chase City Community Park/ Dixie Youth Baseball League and looks forward to the new beginning here.

Trent Gwaltney, born and raised in South Hill, Virginia, joined our team here in 2020. He  is a graduate of the fall 2019 cohort of Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. In addition to this degree, he earned an Associate’s Degree in Information Systems Technology from Southside Virginia Community College. Additionally, he holds a Licensed Courtesy Card of Funeral Service in North Carolina is a Certified Crematory Operator and and Notary Public for Virginia.

While achieving his Associate’s Degree in Mortuary Science, Trent worked for Evans Funeral Home in Milford, Ohio.

Matthew Hite, son of Co-Owner W. Randolph Hite, is a native of Bracey, Virginia. Having spent his formative years helping in his family business, he is a Certified Crematory Operator and is pursuing his degree in Applied Science at Bright Point College to obtain his Funeral Service License.

Prior to entering funeral services, Matthew worked in several career positions within the telecommunications, diesel, masonry, and welding industries, providing our team additional support where needed.

McKayla Smith was born and raised in South Hill, Virginia and joined our team in 2022. She is a graduate of John Tyler College, where she received her Associate Degree in Applied Science; and is a Certified Crematory Operator. Having become a new mother in 2025, McKayla has reduced her status here to part time and is now enjoying being a mom full time.
