Mr. Marvin Dean "Monk" Thompson

Obituary:

Mr. Marvin Dean “Monk” Thompson, age 75, of South Prince George, passed away on Friday August 8, 2025. He was a retired truck driver for Walmart and an United States Army Veteran who served during the Vietnam War. Monk is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary R. Thompson of South Prince George; His son, Jamie Thompson of Petersburg (Kelly); his daughter, Christie Reiter of Petersburg (Michael); his six grandchildren: Kristopher Thompson, Kaitlyn Davis (Thomas), Madelyn Reiter (Corey), Amber Thompson (Steven), Makayla Reiter and Raven Hill; his five siblings: Shirley Tackett, Joyce Taylor, William R. “Bill” Thompson, Tony Thompson (Rose) and Wanda Lowell (Roy). Monk was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Beatrice Thompson and his brother, J.B. Thompson. A Celebration of Monk’s Life will be held on Sunday August 10th at 4:00 P.M. in Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will receive friends starting at 2:00 P.M. until service time in the funeral home. The Thompson family wishes to thank Heritage Hall of Blackstone for their outstanding and loving care that they provided to Monk during his time there.   1. So sorry to hear about Monk. I knew him thru his sister Wanda and brother Tony when we were young. I talked with him when he came to the Scotts Company driving for Walmart. He was really a nice guy

    Sad to hear of Monks passing. He was one of the best brother in laws a family could have. I can still hear him and James laughing at their own jokes!! We shared many laughs over the years. He is in a much better place now.

    So sorry to hear of Monks passing, when i transferred into Sutherland and met him it was like I knew him all my life,such a great friend and person.Thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time,may he rest in peace.

    Mary and family, l am sorry to hear of Monk’s passing. You and the family are in my thoughts and prayers. Wish l could attend his service but have prior commitment for a family reunion. Just know that all of you are in my thoughts and prayers. He is no longer in a bad place, but with Jesus, our redeemer. No more pain, tears are all dried up and waiting for his loved ones to join him one day. We will see him again.

    Mary you and all your family are in our thoughts and prayers. You are still the longest married couple in our PV class of 73! Monk is in heaven. He & J.B. Probably shooting pool! Love to all.

  7. Monk is fondly remembered from when he drove with my daddy (Wallice “Stringy” Reese) at Homecraft in the 70s -80s. Our deepest condolences go out to his wife and family. Those truck drivers were a good bunch of guys.
