Mr. Milton Dale Tetterton, Jr.
10/27/1935 - 12/27/2025
Milton Dale Tetterton, Jr. of South Hill shuffled off this mortal coil on December 27, 2025, after 90 years of a life well-lived. An electrical engineer through and through, Dale’s career was marked by a deep commitment to his community's infrastructure. After studying at Virginia Tech and graduating from North Carolina State University, he spent over a decade with Mecklenburg Electric Co-op. He was perhaps best known for his leadership as the manager of Buggs Island Telephone Co-op in Bracey from 1981 to 1998. His expertise was recognized when he served as president of the National Telephone Co-op Association in 1990. Beyond his professional life, Dale was a fixture in South Hill, serving as an active member of the Lions Club throughout the 80s and 90s. In his younger years, he found adventure on two wheels, competing in motorcycle enduros. Later, he could often be found on the golf course, "hitting the links" with Eddie Crowder or the late Gig Butts. A clarinet player in high school, Dale passed his enduring love for music down to his daughters. He will be remembered most for his unique, dry, and occasionally off-color sense of humor—and for his firm belief that almost any problem in life could be fixed with an ice-cold Coca-Cola. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nancy Burton Tetterton of South Hill; two daughters, Susan Tetterton of Richmond and Elizabeth Taylor (Lee) of Hopewell; his brothers, Darrell Tetterton and Dean Tetterton; many beloved nieces and nephews; as well as the neighborhood children, Elizabeth and Ryan Black, who he loved as grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, M. Dale Sr. and Viola Tetterton, and his brother, David Tetterton. The family also wishes to offer a special thanks to Julie Bagley and her family for the help they have offered to Dale and his family during this journey. Visitation will be at Crowder Hite Crews Funeral Home in South Hill on Wednesday, December 31 at 1PM, immediately followed by service at 2:00. Online condolences may be made through our website, www.crowderhitecrews.com. Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the Tetterton family.
