Mr. James Robert Trimm
02/05/1933 - 04/29/2026
James “Jim” R. Trimm, a respected attorney, longtime public servant, and proud U.S. Navy veteran, passed away after a life defined by dedication to his country, his profession, and his family. A graduate of Washington & Lee University and the University of Virginia School of Law, Jim was drafted into the U.S. Navy shortly after completing his legal studies. He served from 1950 through 1967, beginning in the Naval Reserve and later graduating from Navy Officer Candidate School as an Ensign. Stationed at Subic Bay in the Philippines, he held numerous leadership roles, including Assistant Personnel Officer, Assistant Legal Officer, Shore Patrol Officer, and Officer in Charge of the foreign sailor barracks. He later served in Norfolk, Virginia, as Legal Advisor on the staff of an admiral commanding a flotilla of destroyers. Jim left active duty as a full Lieutenant and continued serving in the Naval Reserve for 15 years.
After returning to Maryland, Jim began a distinguished legal career with the Montgomery County Attorney’s Office before entering private practice and later founding his own firm in Rockville. He went on to serve for ten years as a Domestic Relations Master for the Montgomery County Circuit Court. His professional service included terms as President of the Montgomery County Bar Association, Maryland Delegate to the American Bar Association, and member of the Board of Directors of the Maryland Bar Association.
Jim is survived by his wife, Lucille, with whom he shared 65 years of marriage since 1961; his children, Michael, Vicki, Nancy, and Brian; and six grandchildren—Mitchell, Maxwell, Sean, Colin, Aubrey and Braden—who brought him great pride and joy. He will be remembered for his integrity, his commitment to service, and the many lives he touched throughout his career and community. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2026 at 1:00 P.M. at Crowder – Hite – Crews Funeral Home, followed by full American Legion Post 79 Military Honors.
