Mrs. Doris Claiborne Ryland

Mrs. Doris Claiborne Ryland started her race on October 16, 1925. She received her crown June 30, 2023, at the Hundley Center. She is survived by her daughter, Rowena Hawthorne Ryland; her sisters, Rawlins C. McCauley and Georgie C. Rudd; her grandchildren, Ryland George Turner and Angela Rowena Turner, and her great grandchildren, Caleb Turner and Ma’Ky Robinson. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 30 years, Edwin Ryland; her parents, George and Rowena Claiborne and a son, Edwin Iverson Jr. Doris graduated from South Hill High School. She then pursued her education as a nurse at Johnston Willis Hospital and Retreat in Richmond, Virginia. For many years, she would hold many positions at the First Baptist Church in South Hill, Virginia. She was the Junior Department leader, Sunday school teacher, WMU leader, VBS helper and worked on the kitchen committee. She was also an ordained deaconess of her church which meant the world to her. She always enjoyed sending cards and talking with her church members and friends. A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 11am Friday July 7, 2023 at Ephesus Baptist Church with a visitation prior from 10:00 A.M. until time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ephesus Baptist Church Building Fund at 1642 Smith Cross Road, South Hill, VA 23970.
