Selma "Onie" Yonker Lawson

Mrs. Selma “Onie” Yonker Lawson of South Hill, VA and formerly of La Crosse, VA passed away on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 in VCU/Community Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family. She was 87 years old. She was born on May 17, 1936 to Thomas Yonker, Sr. and Carrie Hendrick Yonker.

She was a homemaker and a full time mother to her children before reopening the family business that was started by her first husband, Raymond Wall. She owned and operated Pearce’s Mini Mart in La Crosse, VA with her husband, Bunny, until his death in 1998.

Onie is preceded in death by her husbands: Paul G. Lawson, Lee Roy “Bunny” Pearce, Jr. and Raymond G. Wall, Sr., her brothers; Grover C. Yonker, Sr. and Thomas Yonker, Jr. and sisters: Joyce Tanner Clary, Louise Y. Bolling, and Ella Y. Wells.


Onie is survived by her son, Raymond G. Wall, Jr. of LaCrosse, VA. Her daughter Joann Wall Sadler (Frank) of Brodnax, VA and their children Bryan G. Sadler (Christina), Ashley Sadler Lewis (Dustin), Katlyn Sadler (Adam), and Katie Sadler; her daughter Kim Pearce Corum (Keith) of the home and their son Stephen Caleb Corum who loved and cared for his grandmother as a son and who she in turn affectionately referred to herself as his second mother. She is also survived by her son Billy Pearce (Kellie) of Bracey and their sons, Landon Pearce and Logan Pearce; 7 great-grandchildren; and her beloved pets Tiger, Simon, Maddox, and Delta whom she shared with her family.

A funeral service will be conducted Friday, December 15, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home with interment in La Crosse Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday night from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. at the funeral Home.
