Obituary:

Samuel (Sam) Thomas Moore, III, age 72, of South Hill, passed away on Wednesday, January
3, 2024 due to a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Sam was born on January 20, 1951.
Sam was a dedicated farmer, avid hunter, diehard Virginia Tech Hokie fan, and lover of his
family and many friends. Sam received his B.S. degree in Agriculture Economics from Virginia
Tech and was a member of Southside Hokie Club for many years. He was also a member of
South Hill United Methodist Church all of his life. Sam was a farming man, plain and simple. He was passionate about the land he farmed his

on his tractor just a few years ago. He took pride in all of it, the good and the hard times. Sam
was a mentor to many other farmers in the community. Sam is survived by his wife, Barbara Moore; two daughters, Sarah Hutson of South Hill and
Sally Adams and her husband Josh of South Hill; his five grandchildren: Nora Adams, Quinn Adams, Connelly Hutson, Sam Hutson, and Penelope Hutson; his two sisters: Linda Boyd and
her husband Richard of Wichita Falls, TX and Katherine Crutchfield of South Hill; and his loving nieces, nephews, and many friends near and far. Sam was preceded in death by his parents,
Samuel Thomas Moore, Jr and Jean Pittman Moore. A loving thank you goes to Sam’s caregiver over the past three years, Glenn Chavis of South Hill, and the Amedisys Hospice Team.

  1. Deepest Sympathy

Barboo and family. You are all in my prayers as you walk this journey. I rejoice for Sam that his suffering is ended but grieve for all those he left behind. May you all feel the peace and comfort only Jesus can give.

  2. So sorry for your loss. You have had a long journey. Sam was so blessed with a wonderful family and good friends. I have such fond memories of Sam as one of Buck’s best friends in high school; 4H, Saturday night escapades, etc. My thoughts and prayers are with you, Barboo, Sarah and Sally.

  3. We were saddened to hear of Sam’s passing. We spent many a VT football game sitting with Sam,Barboo, Sarah and Sally. Later with Josh. The Southside Chapter of the VT Alumni, Brian’s Steak House, many fond memories of Sam and his beautiful family. I would call Sam and he and I would discuss the upcoming football season tickets and our hopeful thoughts about the new season. We will miss you Hokie. Godspeed! Condolences, hugs and love. 4. My husband first symptoms of Parkinson’s occurred during covid, but was diagnosed in 2021 when he was 61 years. He was on Levodopa- not crazy about it! he was also on Sifrol and rotigotine not crazy about any of it either, The Levodopa did very little to help him. The medical team did even less. His decline was rapid and devastating. He had a stooped posture, tremors, muscle stiffness and even slow movements. I was a master Gardener and love herbs! This Parkinson’s took my life from me, I was no longer able to work in my garden anymore because I was a full time caregiver for my husband. We stopped most of his Parkinson’s medications due to severe side effects and I started him on Ayurvedic treatments from Natural Herbs Centre naturalherbscentre. com , the treatment has made a very huge difference for him. His symptoms including body weakness, tremors and slurred speech disappeared after few months on the treatment. He is getting active again since starting this treatment, he is able to walk and able to ride his treadmill again.. This Ayurvedic treatment is a miracle!! I can personally vouch for  these remedy but you would probably need to decide what works best for you

  5. Barboo and the entire Moore family,

Mildred and I send our condolences on Sam’s passing. Our paths went different ways after college, but there are many good memories from growing up in South Hill. As you said in the obit, Sam was as big a Hokie fan as there was anywhere. I know he was proud of the Moore family and enjoyed the life he lived. RIP Sam
