Mrs. Alice Jones Wright

07/01/1916 - 06/19/2024

Obituary:

Alice Jones Wright, of Blackridge, Virginia, found her way Home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 19, 2024, twelve days shy of her 108th birthday. Born Virginia Alice Jones sometime in late June 1916 to Charles and Kate Jones in Blackridge, Alice always celebrated her birthday on July 1. In 1942, Alice married Alvis Aubrey Wright. Alice and Aubrey had one child, a son, Charles Aubrey. Alice was a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church. The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Alice. She loved an evening playing cards with friends. During the summers, Alice could be found working in her garden or preserving its bounty. She had an uncanny ability to find happiness in her daily activities. She always said that her longevity was due to walking everywhere and eating her vegetables. Alice was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Aubrey, with whom she shared 57 years of love and companionship, and her dear son, Charles Aubrey. She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, survived by her grandsons Vance Wright (Laurie) and Alan Wright (Rachel), her great-grandchildren Claire, Zach, Kate, and Charles, and many devoted nieces and nephews. Alice’s final journey will be marked by a brief graveside service at La Crosse Cemetery on Saturday, June 29 at 10:00am. Following this, a gathering of friends and family will be held at Olive Branch Baptist Church, a place that held a special spot in Alice’s heart. In honor of Alice’s memory, the family kindly requests that instead of flowers, donations be made to the La Crosse Fire Department.
