Mr. Richard Henderson "Sonny" Betts III

11/06/1972 - 08/12/2024

Obituary:

Mr. Richard Henderson “Sonny” Betts III, age 51, of South Hill, died Monday, August 12, 2024 at his residence. He was born on November 6, 1972.
Sonny is survived by his mother, Roselyn S. Betts (Robert) of South Hill, father, Richard H. Betts, Jr. also of South Hill, daughter, Amber Betts, and her mother and stepfather, Julie and Scott Daniel, and son and daughter Garrett and Sterling Betts, and their mother, Norma Jean Betts, all of South Hill. He is also survived by his brother, Bobby Betts of Cookeville, TN, three sisters: Susie Lucy and Mitzi Betts, both of South Hill, and Jessica Betts of Las Vegas, NV, and three closest friends, Drew Woyer of Alberta, Jim Iman of Moorefield, WV, and Glenn Wilson of South Hill.
To say Sonny wore many hats in life would be an understatement. Sonny was a football fan, a music lover, a movie buff, always full of life and laughter. He was currently a Delivery Driver for VAMAC. He was a friend ready to share a fun evening hanging out by a fire, and also someone that could listen for hours when you needed him. He was thoughtful and kind, with the biggest heart. He was tough and intimidating if you hurt his family, a true protector. He was some of what everyone needed in life.
He was a kind, loving man who never knew a stranger. He was, more than anything, a proud father to his children. Amber, Garrett and Sterling were his life. He will be forever missed by all who knew him.
A funeral service will be conducted Friday, August 16, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. in Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 12:30 P.M. until the hour of service. Online condolences may be made through our website, www.crowderhitecrews.com. Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the Betts family.

  4. From the first time I met Sonny with Drew back in the Mid 90’s, I could tell right away that he was a special person. Always wanted to know how me and my family were doing and never asked for anything that he would not be willing to reciprocate. I will miss his big ole Bear Hugs! Rest in peace my brother! Till we meet again!
