Mrs. Lois Paynter Powers
03/18/1947 - 11/06/2024
Lois Paynter Powers passed away 0n November 6, 2024, at Arbor Terrace Memory Care in Suwanee, Georgia. She was born March 18, 1947 in Mecklenburg County, Virginia. She was the daughter of John Thomas “JT” Paynter and Mary Wynn Paynter. She graduated from Park View High School in 1965 and attended Davis Beauty School in Richmond, where she received her beautician’s license. In June 1968, she married her high school sweetheart, Harvey Wayne Powers. They lived in Richmond until he was drafted. Lois and Harvey lived in Columbia, South Carolina; Schwetzingen and Frankfurt, Germany; Richmond; and on Lake Gaston in Mecklenburg County, Virginia. Lois was pre-deceased by brothers Fred Paynter, and Lewis Paynter (her twin) and by sisters Joyce Brown and Dorothy Przystup. Lois was employed as a beautician at several businesses. When her children were born, she began a small day-care service from her home. We estimate more than a hundred children benefited from her loving attention. She was active in her church, most recently at Jerusalem United Methodist Church in Warren County, NC, where she helped arrange dozens of meals following funerals there. Lois was also a volunteer with Hospice of Virginia where she received awards for her years of volunteer visits. It was serendipity that Agape Hospice served Lois until her passing. Lois is survived by her husband, Harvey Wayne Powers; her children, Harvey Street Powers, John Thomas “Tom” Powers (Susan); Timothy Claude Powers; and Marci Powers Kenney (Doug) and by ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters Vicky McBride and Loretta Loftis and brothers Robert “Bob” Paynter and John C. Paynter. There will be a visitation at Crowder Hite Crews Funeral Home in South Hill from 4PM to 6PM on Friday, November 29, 2024, to be followed by a graveside service at the Kenbridge Heights Cemetery at 10AM Saturday November 30, 2024. In lieu of flowers, we suggest a donation to Hospice of Virginia Hope Fund, 202 Clark Street, Farmville, VA 23901. Online condolences may be made through our website, www.crowderhitecrews.com. Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the Powers family.
