Mr. William "Bill" E. Voorhies
04/27/1947 - 11/11/2024
William “Bill” E. Voorhies, age 77, of Greenville, Pennsylvania passed from this life on Monday November 11, 2024 at his home in Bracey, Virginia. He was born April 27, 1947 in Greeneville, PA: the only surviving son of the late Archie C. Voorhies and Mary Lou Eichenlaub Voorhies. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Donald Paul Voorhies. Bill was a 1965 graduate of Greenville High School and participated on both the wrestling and golf teams. Bill’s hobbies included golf, flying, and corvettes – a maroon 1965 Chevy Corvette being his absolute favorite! A renowned golfer, Bill won the high school title of Pennsylvania State Champion in 1964 and routinely competed as club champion for the old Greenville Country Club. Earning his private pilot’s license before he could legally drive, Bill was restless to explore the world and was subsequently accepted to attend the University of Arizona in Tucson, where he earned both a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in Psychology in 1969. His early career began as a private commercial pilot from 1969-1971, before settling permanently for a position in the R.D. Werner Company in 1971. Culminating in his retirement in 1991 as Physical Distribution Manager for the Werner Company’s Chicago branch, Bill decided to sell real estate full time. Earning his sales and brokerage licenses in 1988, Bill sold residential real estate for Baird & Warner and Keller Williams for another twenty+ years before his second retirement in 2012. Bill made his home in Chicago’s northwest suburb of Arlington Heights for over 40 years. A member of the Jaycees, the Lions Club, and the Rolling Green Country Club, Bill was universally known for his charm, sharp wit and infectious sense of humor. In 2015 Bill moved to Bracey, Virginia to enjoy permanent retirement. While there, “The Great Bill,” as he was known, held court at Applebee’s Restaurant and served on the R.T. Arnold South Hill Public Library’s Board of Directors. He made friends easily, was widely admired for his loyalty and common sense approach to life, and he dearly loved his family. Bill is survived by his sons, William David Voorhies (Jesseca), a retired U.S. Army Colonel of Springfield, Virginia; Jeremy J. Voorhies (Kasia), a career law enforcement officer of Yuma, Arizona; his daughter Rebecca L. Voorhies, a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner of Las Vegas, Nevada; and five grandchildren: Jack Voorhies, Faith Voorhies, Mary Voorhies, Grace Voorhies, and Chase Voorhies.
