Obituary:

Mr. Wendell Wilkerson “Jimbo” Smith, age 83, of La Crosse, died on Thursday December 5, 2024 in his home, surrounded by his family. Mr. Smith was the long time owner and operator of Smith propane and a Smith’s grocery in La Crosse. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Rachel Upton Smith of La Crosse; his four daughters: Diane Layne and her husband Billy of La Crosse, Rochelle Smith of La Crosse, Patricia Smith Quinn and her husband Jon of La Crosse and Amanda Smith Sasser and her husband Gary of La Crosse; his five grandchildren: Jonathan Layne and his wife Lindsey, Matthew Layne, Sydney Clark and her husband Corey, Carrington Sasser and Maddox Sasser; his three great-grandchildren: Alex Layne, Owen Layne and Bradley Layne and his three siblings: Douglas Smith and his wife Lois of South Hill, Naomi Andrews of Baskerville and Willie Bob Smith, Jr. and his wife Edwina of South Hill. A funeral service will be conducted on Sunday December 8th at 2:00 P.M. in New Hope Baptist Church in South Hill with interment to follow in La Crosse Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 in Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory.   1. Our Thoughts and prayers are with your beautiful family. Jimbo was a very rare and special kind of man. We loved him and your whole family. My God give you peace in knowing that Jimbo is on the streets of gold walking with Jesus and loved ones, in a great reunion with the Lord.
