Thomas Charles Lowder

Thomas Charles Lowder was born in Henderson, KY on August 3, 1949 and died in Richmond, Virginia on March 10, 2025. The son of the late Dorothy Smith Baskett and James Armstrong Lowder, Tom is survived by his sister, Stephanie Lynn Knight (Richard Duschl) of Houston, Texas; three children, Tiffany Lowder and Thomas Brian Lowder (Beth) of Bowling Green, KY and Steffanie Gillstrap (Frank) of New York City, and a nephew, James B. Knight (Lisa) of Chicago, IL. He is also survived by three grandchildren: Kelsey Tullis, Conor Lowder, and Collins Lowder; as well as two great-grandchildren: Dean Tullis and Roscoe Tullis, all of Bowling Green, KY; and two great-nieces, Sophie Knight and Maddie Knight of Chicago, IL. His many friends will also miss him greatly, particularly Craig Whisnant, Sue Reese, and Sandra Boyd.
Tom was an alum of both Western Kentucky University and the University of Kentucky and a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. Tom spent the bulk of his career working decades for Philip Morris International, and after retiring from there early, worked another several years for MBS Books. He lived most of his life in KY but relocated and retired to Henrico, NC and Bracey, VA in later years.
He will be remembered by all who knew him for his quick wit and his ability to weave a story like no other. He was an avid fisherman, a self-described hopeless romantic, a lifelong animal lover, a frequent traveler to Mexico, a dangerous Scrabble opponent, a sneaky practical joker, and a storyteller at heart. Mr Lowder was a very sweet man. He was so kind and friendly. Always had a kind word. I will miss him greatly. My condolences to the family.
Tom was a friend, brother in law and Fraternity Brother He had inherited his Grandfather’s skill of interpersonal relationships .Tom never met a stranger. He had the gift of making everyone welcome. Tom had a loving heart. He will be missed. Tom we love you!

I was really blessed to be a part of Tom’s life. He was an incredible persons and amazing friend. We spent hours driving to and from appointments. Talking and laughing about crazy things he did in his youth. Crazy jokes and things he used to do to his poor children. Scrabble and rummy games during treatments. Talking each other off the ledge. Co-dependency at its worst. I miss you my friend…,give Sebastian hugs for me. Until we meet again 🙏🏻
