Christine Lucy Tanner
With great sadness to those she left behind, Christine Lucy Tanner, better known as Chris, to her friends and family and Nana to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, departed for her heavenly home on Monday, April 28 th , 2025. The fourth of the eight children to John Cleveland and Murtis Lucy of Dolphin, VA, Christine was born on February 13th , 1930. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 45 years, Evans Daniel Tanner, Sr. and her beloved first grandchild Meredith Tanner Smith, along with her 7 siblings, Edith Plummer, Kathleen Tanner, Jane Rash, Nancy Williams, John Cleveland (JC) Lucy, Jr, Emory Lucy, & Pat Lucy. She is survived by her 3 sons, Evans Daniel (Dan) Tanner Jr and his wife Mary, Robert Moss (Bob) Tanner and his wife Rita, & Thomas Christopher (Tom) Tanner and his wife Sandra. The family tree continues with 2 further generations including her grandchildren Michael Tanner and his fiancé Tiffany, Rebecca Tanner, Evans Daniel (Trey) Tanner, III, Will Tanner, Olivia Tanner, & Madilynne Tanner. She is also survived by her great-grandson Royce Tanner, her grandson-in-law Gary Smith, step great-granddaughter Khloe Shearon, and three sisters-in-law, Carolyn Lucy, Virginia Waitt Lucy, & Mary Lucy. A graduate of Lawrenceville High School in 1947, she continued her education at Madison College receiving a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1951. Christine first became a teacher before transitioning to owning and operating La Crosse Candy Co., Inc. with her husband until his death in April of 2000. She continued to work in the family business along with her sons until she retired to pursue traveling with her siblings and friends, as well as hosting card games and other gatherings. She was an active member of La Crosse Methodist Church including roles in the United Methodist Women and teaching Sunday School classes. She also enjoyed spending time as a volunteer with the CMH Auxiliary. Her time on earth was marked with love, compassion, and an unwavering faith in God. While her passing has left a void in our hearts that will never be filled, we are rejoicing that she has gained her wings and is reunited with her husband, parents, & siblings. Her impact on her family and the world will live on for years to come. The family would also like to thank Mary Simon & Susan Vaughan along with other caregivers for giving their time and their hearts to Christine during her final years. A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 10, 2025 at La Crosse Methodist Church at 1:00 P.M. with a visitation beginning at 11:00 A.M. until the time of service in the church. Interment will be at La Crosse Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to make donations to the La Crosse Methodist Church Endowment Fund, Southside Rescue Squad, or La Crosse Volunteer Fire Department.     To say that Christine was a staple in the LaCrosse community is an understatement. She was the most rooted, grounded woman and shared her love of Christ with joy with all those around her. She always has a special place in my heart and I will miss my next door neighbor. Sweet peace to the family

    My condolences to the Tanner family. I was sorry to hear of Mrs. Tanner’s passing. She was a kind lady and a good teacher. I always loved it when she substituted during seventh grade.
