Mrs. Blanche Sumner Griffin

Mrs. Blanche Sumner Griffin, age 88, of Tanglewood Shores Subdivision, Bracey, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday June 10, 2025 in her home. She was born in Carroll County, Virginia to William Henry and Naomi Sumner. She was the 11th of 13 children. She was a resident of the Richmond and Colonial heights area for nearly 40 years before moving to Lake Gaston in 2004, after her husband retired. Preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers and five sisters; two sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Lawrence Griffin, two step-children: Terrie Griffin Stafford and her husband Roy; Michael Griffin and his wife Jessica, 7 step-grandchildren, 9 step-great-grandchildren and 1 step-great-great grandson. Before moving to Richmond in the mid 60’s, she served as the County Court Clerk for Carroll County Court, which is now General District Court. She retired after 23 years as a senior legal secretary for the Richmond city Attorney’s Office. She was a member of Chester Baptist Church for 37 years, where she held many offices, including youth worker, Sunday school teacher, WMU director and church hostess; presently she was an active member of Olive Branch Baptist Church in Blackridge, Virginia. She also was an active member of the Lake Gaston Ladies Club, the former Ebony Homemakers Club, the Women of the Moose and the original Diamonds in the Rough Bridge Group. A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday June 14th at 2:00 P.M. in Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will receive friends starting at 12 noon until service time in the funeral home. A private interment will take place at Southlawn Memorial Park in Petersburg, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Chester Baptist Church at 4317 School Street, Chester, VA 23831 or to Olive Branch Baptist Church at 5223 Blackridge Road, La Crosse, VA 23950.
