Mr. Ronald Radcliff George

08/08/1944 - 11/08/2025

Obituary:

Mr. Ronald Radcliff George, 81, passed away on Saturday, November 8, 2025 in his home. Ron is predeceased by his parents, Roland and Helen (Atkins) George of Chatham, Va, his sister, Wanda George of Raleigh, NC, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Brenda (Clark) George of South Hill, Va; his daughter and son-in-law Suzanne (George) and Billy Duffy, and his beloved granddaughters Addison and Reagan Duffy, all of Fair Haven, NJ. He is additionally survived by cousins who were like siblings and friends who were like family. Ron was born August 7, 1944 in Chatham, Virginia. He graduated Chatham High School and continued on to Elon University where his sister, daughter, son in law and best friends also attended. He later served on the Elon Alumni Board. Ron began working with Winn Dixie right out of college, a business he grew up in as his family owned a country grocery store. He was with the company for over 35 years. His time with Winn Dixie took him and his family throughout the southeast. Creating moments and memories in Virginia, the Carolinas, Kentucky, Florida and more. Each position was a calling, each place an experience, all the people he met along the way became friends, all helping to create the stories he would share again and again. While he lived many places, Lake Gaston was his chosen home. It’s where he could rest, enjoy family and friends, ride his boat, and create a lifetime of memories. Sometimes the drive there was as long as13 hours, but it was always worth it. Eventually Lake Gaston became his permanent home and after some time working with Farmer’s Foods, he officially retired at the lake. He rode his golf cart everywhere and was the self proclaimed mayor of Poplar Creek. He taught his grand daughters how to fish, ride a tube behind the boat and maybe even threw them off the dock a time or two. Retirement let him enjoy lawn mowing, the water and much time withhis beloved wife Brenda. Ron’s list of achievements, recognitions, organizations and boards he belonged to and served on was long. But none were as important as his involvement with his church, Olive Branch Baptist. Ron’s faith was deep and his relationship with Jesus essential. There is no doubt he is in Heaven with his Savior today. While his friends and family take peace in that knowledge, he is dearly missed by all who knew him. Visitation will be held Wednesday, Nov. 12 at Olive Branch Baptist Church 5223 Blackridge Road LaCrosse, VA 23950 at 10am. Service will immediately follow at 11am. A private burial will be held at Hollywood Baptist Church in Climax, Va. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Olive Branch Baptist Church. Online condolences may be made through our website, www.crowderhitecrews.com. Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the George family.

  2. Dear Brenda,
We are in shock and deeply saddened at Ron’s passing. He was my friend, my hero, and my mentor since I was 16. He took me under his wing and trained me to be a success at Winn-Dixie. He taught me how to be a good businessman and how to treat customers and employees with respect and dignity. I cannot make it to the visitation due to health issues, but you will be in our hearts and prayers. Ronnie will be in my heart forever.

  5. My heartfelt condolences to Brenda and Suzanne:

…my Daddy’s friend, my brother’s boss’s boss’s boss, our daughters played together practically in a playpen at their (weekend) traiier here at Lake Gaston. Ronnie had a wonderful personality and made everyone feel like a friend. Then, I saw him at Olive Branch Baptist Church 30 years later. He also served on a committee with my husband at the Concord Baptist Association. He was always complimentary and encouraging. He will be missed by many!

  6. Thinking of You All

To Suzanne, Billy, and the girls……my heart breaks for you all. Remember the best of times as hard as that may seem right now. No words can heal the pain but memories will ultimately help.

    Love you all,

    Canto
