Obituary:

Marie Evans Spake Johnstin, age 88, of South Hill, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2025. She was a retired scale clerk for Vulcan Materials and the widow of Peter Spake and Sonny Johnstin. She is survived by her daughter, Vicky Evans of South Hill, her son Bryan Spake (Shannon) of Wasilla, AK, her granddaughters, Jenny Whittemore (Chris), Brittany Knight, grandsons Jeffrey Melton (Dana), Zachary Overgaauw, five great-grandsons, Tucker Warren, Cooper Warren, Charlie Whittemore, Mason Whittemore (Madeline) and Chase Truong, three great-granddaughters, Madison Howle, Cassity Truong, and Helena Knight, great-great granddaughter, Nellie Howle, her brother, William B. Evans (Teen), her beloved friends, Sandra Carpenter and William Griffin. Marie will be remembered for her delicious cooking and unmatched work ethic. Her home was always spotless, her yard was a source of pride and beauty for all who passed by, and her famous Christmas candies were a treasured family tradition. The family would like to thank the Staff at Pine View Assisted Living for their care over the past couple of years. A Memorial Service will be conducted on Sunday, November 23rd, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. in the Southside Baptist Church, 155 Wells St., LaCrosse, VA 23950. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Southside Baptist Church at P.O. Box 295, La Crosse, VA 23950. Online condolences may be sent through our website at www.crowderhitecrews.com.   1. My condolences to Nana Ree’s family. She was a strong & energetic lady that knew what she wanted. I met her during employment at Buckhorn. May she take her rest, job well done. Stay prayerful family

    My heart is broken that our friendship has ended. Yet rejoicing over Marie’s entry into Heaven’s gate! We know she is at peace now! To her family our deepest sympathy over their loss. Our prayers are with you during this time 💗
