Mr. Wayne Douglas “Doug” Smith, age 83, of South Hill, better known as PaPa, Daddy,Pop, Dugout, Bluebird, Smitty and Mr. Smith, passed away on Monday November 24,2025 outside his home doing yard work. 1. Uncle Doug always had a smile on his face and it always got bigger when aunt Lois walked in the room. We would always joke about how to tell a Smith from anywhere because the smith ears stood out. I always went to horseshoe for mine n dad’s birthday because that’s where I wanted to go until it closed. If Uncle Doug saw you he was going to give you a hug and ask how everybody was in the family along with aunt Lois. The last time I saw both of them was in food lion and he was smiling ear to ear asking about everybody and asked how the kids were doing. I got the biggest hug and tightest one ever. May you and uncle Jimbo walk the golden road and grow a garden together up there in heaven. Both you will and are greatly missed but the family will always make sure your love ones are taking care of down here. Rest in peace and never forgotten.

  4. Mr. & Mrs.

Lois and family. I am so sorry for your loss. Doug was a wonderful man who had the greenish thumb, meaning he could grow one heck of a garden. I will never find another red tomato like he grew. I am in awe of Doug & Lois staying together so long. They were so right for each other and their love produced two wonderful children. I miss the times that we visited and the fun we had. Doug had a great laugh. All of you will be in our thoughts and prayers.

  7. Remembering a good friend

Lois, Dennis, Kim and family. May Linda and I offer our deepest condolences to you all. Our thoughts and prayers will continue to be with you.

Doug was a perfect Southern Gentlemen with his soft spoken words, his love for family and friends and his acts of kindness. Other than ball games in earlier years we spent many days in our joint garden where we found time to raise our vegetables and talk about the good old days that God gave both of us.

Rest in peace our good friend, We love you
    Lewis and Linda Wells
