Rev. Arthur Carter "A.C." Wells, Jr.
06/05/1947 - 01/04/2026
Arthur Carter “A.C.” Wells, Jr., of La Crosse, passed away peacefully at home, January 4, 2026, in his favorite spot, his chair. He was the son of the late Arthur and Rachel Wells and was also preceded in death by his sister, Linda Crank. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Mary Belcher Wells; his daughter, Marianne Early (Chris); his sons, Jonathan Wells (Kelly), all of La Crosse, and Chris Wells (Jenny) of Panama City Beach, Florida; five granddaughters, Brianna Wells, Savanna Wells, Rachel Wells, Mari Charlotte Early, and Cora Early; three grandsons, Austin Howerton, Curt Wells, and Carter Early; one great-granddaughter, Emery Howerton; and one great-grandson, Aspen Howerton.
A.C. dedicated his life to both ministry and education. He served many churches throughout the area for over 25 years but called Mt. Horeb Baptist Church home as he devoted the majority of his time there. He also taught at the former Mecklenburg Academy for 15 years. In addition to his lifelong service, A.C. enjoyed collecting coins, planting his garden and harvesting his crops, and reading a wide range of subjects—from biblical studies and history to mystery novels. Above all, he treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Crestview Memorial Park. Thinking of you and praying for your family. May God give you all peace and comfort during this difficult time.
Mr. Wells was a great teacher, coach, mentor and pastor. He touched many lives and left wonderful memories. He loved to lecture in history and gov. classes. Pages and pages of notes to study. Rest in peace and prayers for all the family. With deepest condolences.

Mary I am so sorry for your loss. I will
keep you and the family in my prayers.
AC was a very Christian man. My children had him as a principal and he was so good at what he did including his ministry. There is no doubt that he is celebrating with his Lord and Savior. May God be with each member of his family in the months ahead without him. Lots of love from my home to yours
