Obituary:

Laura James Harper Whitlock died April 10, 2026 at the age of 99. Born in Bracey, VA on September 12,1926, she was the daughter of William J. and Robbie F. Harper. Laura graduated as Valedictorian and President of the 1943 class of LaCrosse High School and went on to attend Ferrum Junior College. She was retired as a secretary/bookkeeper. Also, she was a member of the South Hill Methodist Church; secretary/ treasurer of the UMW; and member/ treasurer of the Chancel choir for many years. She was the widow of Percy T. Whitlock and predeceased by a son, Glenn L. Whitlock; a grandson, William A. “Andy” Sadler, Jr.; two brothers, Morriss F. Harper and Robert W.”Buddy” Harper; two sons-in-law, Herbert L. “Bill” Bowers, Jr. and William A. Sadler; and a daughter-in-law, Sarah N. Whitlock. Surviving are two daughters, Phyllis W. Bowers of South Hill, VA and Sharon W. Sadler of Ebony, VA; a son, Paul B. Whitlock (Cheryl) of Colonial Heights, VA; five grandsons, Brent J. Bowers (Amrita), Herbert L. “Bert” Bowers, III (Amy), Dennis J. Sadler (Shantelle), Perry T. Whitlock and Trevor L. Whitlock; two great-granddaughters, Elle Whitlock and Mirabelle Bowers; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 14, 2026 at Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 PM until service time and at all other times at the home of Phyllis Bowers, 7773 Hwy 1, South Hill, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made through our website, www.crowderhitecrews.com. Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the Whitlock family.
