Obituary:

Mr. Lenwood Ervin Conner, age 77, of South Hill, was born on March 15, 1949 in Skipwith, Virginia and passed away in his home on Friday April 17, 2026. Lenwood was raised on a tobacco farm and didn’t leave until he joined the U.S. Army 5th infantry division and served in the Vietnam War. He worked for Virginia Homes for two years before leaving to become a Drill Crew Supervisor for VDOT, where he served for 37 years. Lenwood was also a member of the Powhatan Moose Lodge and the South Hill American Legion Post 79. Being an avid hunter, Lenwood was a member of the Mountain Creek Hunt Club and Otter Creek Hunt Club. Lenwood’s favorite hobby was rabbit hunting. He started raising rabbit beagles when he was 13 years old and has had as many as 28 beagles at one time. Lenwood was a very renowned Horseshoe pitcher and was a member of the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association for over 30 years. Lenwood greatly enjoyed traveling to Horseshoe pitching events with his son, Lenwood, Jr. He pitched with the best horseshoe pitcher in Virginia, Alvin Perry and with the world’s best horseshoe pitcher, Allan Francis. Lenwood won the Virginia State Moose Horseshoe tournament 13 times. Lenwood is survived by his wife, Audrey Gill Conner; his son, Lenwood E. Conner, Jr. and his wife Jennifer; his sister, Marjorie Lawson and her husband Raymond; his brother, Clarence Conner and his wife Donna and his many friends he made while hunting. Lenwood was preceded in death by his parents, Ervin and Pauline Conner; his sister, Anne Edmonds and his brother, Michael Conner. A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday April 21st at 2:00 P.M. in Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory with interment to follow in Crestview Memorial Park with full American Legion Post 79 Military Honors. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until service time in the funeral home. Online condolences may be made through our website, www.crowderhitecrews.com.
