He was predeceased in death by his parents and siblings Katherine White Abernathy and Ricky White. David graduated from Park View High School in 1969 and served in the Army Reserves from 1971 to 1977. In 1972, he married the love of his life, Sylvia Harper White. They played cards with friends, loved to waterski, and spent many summers on the lake. David dearly loved and respected his father, and so he and Sylvia built a house and family next door to his parents. They welcomed their children Amanda White Gibson in 1981 and Michael Ashby White in 1984.Possessing an engineer’s mind, David and was a talented builder and mechanic. He built houses at USCO and then kept the sewing machines in good working order at Aileen. For over twenty-five years he was a lineman with Buggs Island Telephone where he was well-known for his technical knowledge and personal charm in the Bracey area. David retired in 2013 and spent the last productive years of his life handcrafting firearms and gardening. David loved animals, sci-fi movies, off-color jokes, and good, long naps. But he especially loved his family. He is survived by his wife Sylvia; children Amanda (Aaron) and Michael (Kelly); grandchildren Lewis, James, Goldie, Beau, Ashby, and Margo; niece Donna Clay Simpson; and many cousins, former coworkers, and friends. The family would like to thank the staff in the memory care unit at the Estates at West End for taking care of David for the last 18 months of his life as he struggled with dementia. A funeral service will be conducted July 11 at 11am at Ephesus Baptist Church, 1642 Smith Cross Rd., South Hill, followed by lunch and visitation with family at the church.
