John William Yore

12/08/1940 - 07/06/2026

Obituary:

John William Yore, age 85, of Chase City, VA, passed away on July 6, 2026, at home, surrounded by his loving family.

John was born on December 8, 1940, in Chicago, IL, to Frank and Charlotte Yore, where he spent his formative years. He had one brother, Frank, and two sisters, Marlyn and Charwill.

John was a veteran of the United States Army and proudly served his country through two combat tours in Vietnam as a battery commander, ultimately attaining the rank of Captain. For his service and bravery, he was twice awarded both the Bronze Star for Valor and the Purple Heart.

Following his military service, John earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Illinois Chicago Circle (UICC, now UIC) and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of South Florida as a member of its inaugural Executive M.B.A. class. During his career, he founded and operated several businesses, including Florida Seal & Rubber Company in Tampa, FL.

In retirement, John enjoyed farming cattle, horses, and hay. He also had a love for woodworking, particularly restoring antique classic wooden boats. Mechanically inclined and endlessly curious, John could often be found tinkering with or repairing just about anything, even taking an interest in watch repair.

More than his accomplishments, John will be remembered for the kind of man he was. He was a strong, generous, and dependable presence in the lives of those around him. To his family he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, but his influence extended far beyond his own children. Over the years, he became a father figure, mentor, and role model to many, offering the kind of guidance, support, and example that some had never known from a father of their own. He had a lasting impact on the people fortunate enough to know him, and his example of strength, character, and devotion to family will continue through the lives he touched.

He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Kathy; four children, Adam Yore (Maria) of Columbia, MO, Michelle Welch (Mark) of Mt. Airy, NC, Victor Yore (Stephanie) of Chase City, VA, and Michael Yore of Chase City, VA; six grandchildren, Tyler, Ava, Addison, Lillian, Johnna, and Jocelynn; his nieces, Margaret and Jeanie; along with many other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his son, Justin Matthew Yore.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 12:00 p.m., with the family receiving friends prior at 11:30 a.m. at Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory, 1504 N Mecklenburg Ave, South Hill, VA 23970.
