Mr. George Franklin Boteler, Jr.

Mr. George F. Boteler, Jr, age 85, of Bracey, VA, died peacefully on Tuesday,September 22, 2026. He was preceded in death by his wife, Naomi Myers Boteler; his parents, George F. Boteler, Sr and Helen Bost and his sister, Carol Anne Halso. He is survived by his four children: son Dennis Boteler, son Raymond Boteler (wife Maria), daughter Sharon Janis (husband Stephen) and daughter Pamela Boteler (husband Scott), his three grandchildren: Grason Wolfe (wife Jessica), Erica Smith (husband Jordan) and Mathieu Boteler, and two great-grandchildren; Zoë Wolfe and Vivian Smith. George was born in Washington, DC and grew up in Lanham, MD. He and Naomi got married in 1960 and they lived in Beltsville, MD with their four children. In 1993, George and Naomi moved to Bracey, VA. He was a beloved husband, father, Poppy/Grandpa, car enthusiast, church member and friend. For the majority of his work life, he worked as a machinist at Williams & Heintz Map Corporation in Capitol Heights, MD. He maintained all the large map printing equipment and even built machines for better productivity. He was a real-life MacGyver. If he needed a piece of equipment and it either wasn’t sold in stores or if he thought it was too much money, he would build it himself. He had everything under the sun in his workshop at home. He enjoyed working on cars, fishing (both lake & pond), the cabin, his golf carts (a fast one for him, a slow one for Naomi), fixing any and everything, frying fresh caught fish, popping popcorn on the stove, camping, soap box derby racing with the cub scouts, cooking the best crispy bacon, their dog Annie, perfectly cut French fries, (secret) chocolate ice cream, Oreo cookies, a good flattop, watching both the 6 o’clock & 10 o’clock news, and any Andy Griffith episode. And liver and onions on his birthday! In his later years, Poppy/Grandpa loved playing Yahtzee with the grandkids, teaching Erica to drive a golf cart at age 9 and creating a driving path through the woods (complete with Stop and Yield signs from who knows where), tire swings, building a tree house, birdwatching at their many feeders, catching squirrels at said feeders, baiting your hook, hanging at the local garage, taking pictures, puzzles, doing a craft or two and playing cornhole. His smile was always 10 times bigger when the grandkids were around. He will be missed. The family will receive friends and family on Saturday, October 3, 2026 at 11:00 am at Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home in South Hill. Following the visitation will be a graveside service at 12:00 pm at Crestview Memorial Park in La Crosse. Flowers are accepted at the funeral home.
