Mrs. Bettie Leis Townsend

07/08/1941 - 11/21/2021

Obituary:

Mrs. Bettie Ann Leis Townsend, 80, passed away on November 21, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Alvin “Billy” Townsend, and her sister, Mildred Leis Fricker. She is survived by her daughter Brenda Townsend Tanner, three sons, John Alvin Townsend Jr. (Beth), William Alan Townsend (Pam) and Wayne Anthony Townsend (Tammy), three granddaughters, five grandsons, and one great-grandson. She was a homemaker and a farmer, raising four children while helping keep the farm running. After her children were grown, she went back to college and earned an associate’s degree in secretarial science. She loved watching her grandchildren play sports, dance, and perform in theater. Her favorite pastimes were playing Scrabble, watching the Washington Nationals or any baseball, and traveling with her family, especially Ocracoke and Nova Scotia. She will be lovingly remembered for Camp Grandma that allowed her grandchildren, their cousins, and often other friends to spend a week together having fun and getting to know one another. A funeral service will be conducted on Friday November 26th at 2:00 P.M. in New Hope Baptist Church, South Hill with interment to follow in Crestview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends starting at 12:30 P.M. until service time in the church. Online condolences may be sent through our website, www.crowderhitecrews.com. Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the Townsend family.
