Coach Crutchfield
I played varsity football at Hanahan High 1969,70,71 & 72. Billy Seigler was head coach and the assistants were coach Wade Crutchfield, coach Sauls, and coach Hatfield. Coach Crutchfield coached the offensive and defensive lines. He was strong, tough, and a hands on teacher. I was starting center for 3 years and he taught me how to read the defenses and make the right block calls. We had a 39-6-1 record over 4 years and played for the state AAA championship my senior year. Coach Crutchfield and the other coaches made us better than ourselves alone and better men for having known them. God bless Coach Crutchfield and may the Peace of the Lord comfort the Crutchfield family.
Condolences
Luanne, Brian and the Crutchfield family. I am so sorry for your loss. You are all in my prayers and I hope the peace that only God can give will be with you now and in the difficult days ahead.
Former Player
Crutchfield Family,
I am a former Football player having played 1972-1973-1974 for Coach at Hanahan High School. Coach, taught all of his players to never settle for just being good, always strive to be great. His drive through his players resulted in us either being Region Champions or Co- Champions 3 straight years. Coach and one of his assistants, Coach Roscoe, were instrumental in me also becoming a coach for 39 years and for that I am most grateful. Rest In Peace, Coach and may God’s peace be with his family!
I’m so sorry for your loss. May God grant you and your family the peace and serenity needed during this tragic time. Your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.
Ferrum Teammate
My condolences to the Crutchfield family. Wade was a
great teammate and friend. Wade was always fun to be around and full of laughter. He never met a stranger. He
was an integral part of our Championship team and will always be remembered by all of the remaining team members. Rest in Peace, Wade
Luanne & Brian, Pat called me last night & I am so saddened to read this obit today. Wade helped so many kids, and an asset to PV. Prayers of peace for your entire family. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if I can help with anything.
I’m so very sorry for your loss, y’all…..❤️
My Condolences
I have known Wade Crutchfield since I graduated from UVA and began teaching at Park View High School in 1988. I met a crew of teachers there who won my heart and loyalty and love, and Wade was one of them. This man could be heard across the school if he wished, but that voice was usually one of laughter and camaraderie. He helped make my first years as an instructor memorable … with jokes, conversations, cook-outs, and his huge heart.
When I returned to Mecklenburg in 2005, Wade shared my room for one of the P.E. classes. Other than both of us being fifteen years older, Wade was still the wonderful man I remembered.
May he rest in peace within God’s arms.
My best,
Wendy
Coach
Brian and Luanne, I’m so sorry for your loss. I hope that knowing your Dad is in a better place now gives you some comfort and peace. Your Dad will always hold a special place in my heart. His impact on me as my High School football coach has had lasting effects on me and life lessons I learned from him have shaped me throughout my life. Those same values and lessons I learned from coach on and off the football field in high school have been in many ways a foundation in raising my own children. He will always be remembered in my heart as coach as he will be for so many others. Prayers from Rachel, Jacob, Abby, and I are with the two of you today.
My deepest sympathy to the Wade Crutchfield family, he is remembered. I wish you God’s speed, Randy Cline ’67
I was just telling a story about you last week. RIP Coach. My condolences to the family.
Dr.
My condolences to Wade’s family. Wade was a distant cousin as we extended from different branches of the Crutchfield tree. I was younger than Wade, but I remembered his triumphs on the football field around Southside Virginia. Like me, he was a La Crosse boy. Blessings and peace be with you all.
So sorry to hear of Coach Crutchfield’s passing. This is how he was known to me when he taught Math to me in 1970 at Hanahan High School. He had a way with teaching and caring at the same time. I was truly blessed to have him as a teacher. Prayers for comfort and strength to his family at this time.
Coach you will be miss but not forgotten
My condolences to you Brian, Luanne and Family for your loss. I know I have been away for many years but I just heard about your dad. Your dad was a great mentor to me. He taught me a lot of life lessons on and off the football field. Some of my best years were playing football for your dad. He is going to be greatly missed. As Jason said about your dad, he will always be remembered by me as “Coach”. There is a poem that I once heard that basically sums up what your father was to me and to others that played for him.
Your dedication and direction put fire in our souls.
You have inspired us to do the best to reach our goals.
Your lessons will be remembered long after the game is won or lost.
For the lessons you have taught us have only first begun.
You’ve taught us about commitment, perseverance and hope.
And as we go though life, we’ll be better able to cope.
To cope with all our struggles, our failures and success because we had you for our coach.
One of the best Coaches I ever had. Rest in peace “Coach”
