Obituary:

Una Howard Harris, Jr. of South Hill, age 86, died peacefully at his home in South Hill with his loving wife
of 45 years, Delphine “Dell” by his side on Friday, September 16, 2022. He was the former co-owner and
founder of Virginia Homes in Boydton, VA, a United States Army Veteran and owner of Harris
Construction.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Joann Wilson (Dennis) of Boydton and Darlene Wells
(Mark) of South Hill, two sons Kenneth Ashworth (Debbie) of Providence Forge and Barry Ashworth of
South Hill, a brother, Norfleet Harris of Charlotte, NC, and a sister Nell Glass of Clarksville as well as
many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Una enjoyed helping others and volunteered many hours for the Community Memorial Hospital
Auxiliary. He also served as a volunteer firefighter for the Boydton Fire Department. He mentored many
individuals in the building trades and was a licensed contractor in both Virginia and North Carolina for
over 25 years.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Crowder-Hite-Crews
Funeral Home in South Hill followed with burial at Crestview Memorial Park with Military Honors. The
family request memorial contributions to Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Edwina Smith,
26800 Hwy #47, South Hill, VA 23970, La Crosse United Methodist Church, c/o Grady Waters, 203 Canaan Church Rd., La Crosse, VA 23950 or Mecklenburg County Cancer Association, P. O. Box 311, Chase City, VA 23924.
The family would like to thank Dr. Linda Powers and the home health team for the exceptional care they
provided Una while at home. Also, the church family, friends and neighbors provided special support to
the family during this time.

    We were saddened to hear of Una passing and would like to offer our sincere sympathy to his family. We will always remember his kindness and helpfull suggestions when we were building our home 40 years ago. This community lost a great man and he will be missed.
