Ruby Reekes Cannon

Obituary:

Mrs. Ruby Reekes Cannon, age 91 of South Hill, died Thursday, November 10, 2022 in VCU/Community Memorial Hospital. She was the co-owner of the Plaza-Villa Skating Rink and Cannon Motor Company both in La Crosse then later retired from Roses. She loved playing cards and Bingo but most of all she was devoted to her family.

Ruby is survived by a daughter Wendy Tippette and husband Dan of Wilmington, N.C., three granddaughters; Ginger Cannon of Williamsburg, Kim E. Gardner and husband Bill of Midlothian and Terri Jones and husband Steve of South Hill, two grandsons; Dalton Tippette of San Francisco, CA. and Henry Edmonds and wife Brittany of La Crosse, seven great grandchildren and a special friend Ricky House. She was predeceased by two sons; Danny C. Cannon and Barry M. Cannon and a daughter Joyce Edmonds Hodges. She was the last of fourteen children.
A graveside funeral service will be conducted Sunday, November 13, 2022 at 3:00 P. M. in Crestview Memorial Park. The family suggest Memorial contributions in Ruby’s name to the Mecklenburg County Cancer Association, P. O. Box 311, Chase City, VA. 23924.     I met Ms.Ruby at church. Every Sunday I would see her and loved seeing her smiling face. She would give me a hug. Ms. Ruby was a sweet soul. She loved many people. She loved her family and friends. I will truly miss her. LOVE YOU MS. RUBY! HUGS and LOVE from Lori 🫂 ❤ Wollenberg

    Ruby worked for me at Rose’s. She was a sweet soul. She knew everyone who came in to shop. Her and Josie were the best two workers you could ask for running your front checkouts. Thanks for your service! God Bless you Ruby!
