Obituary:

Learley Darlene Spencer, of Bracey, VA, passed away Friday January 13th 2023. Born April 7th, 1961 in Petersburg VA, She moved to Crewe VA at a young age and mostly grew up there. Learley, who preferred to go by “Darlene” was one of 6 siblings, an avid athlete, and loved to play softball when she was younger. She was married at 16 to Darrell W Spencer Sr, who taught her the upholstery business and was the father of her only son Darrell W Spencer Jr. They ran Spencer's Upholstery and Furniture together, in Crewe and Farmville VA, for years and before that she delivered papers for the Richmond Times Dispatch. She also worked at Oak Tree Upholstery in Crewe for a number of years. She resided in Burkeville, VA for 20 years. After 20 years of marriage they divorced and she met her long time significant other Matthew “Frankie” Baldwin, of Cumberland VA, whom she loved dearly. They were together 20 years where they resided near Lake Gaston and she worked at Virginia Quilting for 15 years, before retiring. She enjoyed going out on the lake, watching reruns of Gunsmoke at home with their beloved pups Sassy, Moe, and Blue, and visits from her grandchildren. She is preceded in death by; her mother Hazel M. Carter (Flowers), her brother William “Billy” Adams, her sister Victoria Lastovica, and her son's father Darrell Spencer Sr. She is survived by her brothers Donald Faison, Richard Faison and Joseph Adams, her son Darrell Spencer Jr and his wife Allison and her grandchildren Darrell III, Alexis and Briana Spencer. A graveside funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday January 18th at 2:00 P.M. in the Crewe Cemetery in Crewe, Virginia. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 7:30 in Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory. Online condolences may be made through our website, www.crowderhitecrews.com.   1. Darlene was so over the moon when it came to her grandchildren. Her eyes just sparkled when talking about them and an upcoming visit. I will miss her sense of humor, her view on life and the laughter when joshing about Frankie. I was fortunate to have the time I did in knowing this side of her. God Bless!
