Mrs. Lula Mae Hooper

07/14/1936 - 04/22/2023

Obituary:

Mrs. Lula Mae Hooper, age 86, of Saluda, Virginia and formerly of Littleton, North Carolina, died on Saturday April 22, 2023 in her home. Lula Mae was born in Mecklenburg, VA on July 14, 1936 to Dillard Morris and Jessie Thomas. She grew up in Mecklenburg before marrying her husband, Gaines “Mack” Hooper in 1954. Together, they lived in Chesterfield, VA with their three children. Whilst raising her boys, Lula Mae worked various jobs outside the home including driving a school bus for Richmond Christian, working the drug store counter, and later at Estes Express Line. Her most important roles were caring for her family and later becoming the caregiver for her husband during the final decade of his life. Mack and Lula Mae were married for 57 years at his passing. She was loved by all who knew her and well-known for her hospitality. Anyone who walked into Lula Mae’s home could expect she would be putting on a pot of coffee and serving some cake or pie during the visit. She taught all of her granddaughters how to make her famous buttermilk biscuits and enjoyed sharing a variety of other recipes with her loved ones. Lula Mae was also preceded in death by her son, Mark Timothy Hooper. She is survived by her sons Dale Hooper (Trudy) of Chester, VA and Philip Hooper (Victoria) of Chesterfield, VA. Lula Mae is also survived by her eight granddaughters, 21 great grandchildren, along with numerous other family members and close friends. A funeral service will be conducted on Friday April 28th at 2:00 P.M. in Lake Gaston Baptist Church, Littleton, NC with interment to follow in the Lake Gaston Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends starting at 12:30 until service time in the Church. Online condolences may be made through our website, www.crowderhitecrews.com.
