Mrs. Elizabeth Coleman "Libby" Tobin

08/24/1958 - 09/14/2023

Libby lived a beautiful, blessed, and full life. Born to John and
Polly Coleman, she spent her youth in South Hill, Virgina. Upon
graduation from Brunswick Academy, she attended Louisburg College and
graduated from University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She spent
many years lovingly teaching kindergarten students in Holly Ridge,
North Carolina. In 1986 Libby and Brad were married, and for more than 37 years, she
provided a healthy, joyful, safe, and loving home for Brad, Brett, and
Carter in Wilmington, North Carolina, Louisville, Kentucky, Chagrin
Falls, Ohio, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and New York City. Libby's greatest joy was her family; husband, Brad, son, Brett and his wife, Ali, daughter, Carter and her husband, Nick. Grandson Henry, Granddaughter Ava, and grandchildren yet to come will know their loving grandmother through stories. She is also survived by her two sisters: Mary Ann Lacy and Frances Ellen Doyle and her brother, John D. Coleman. While called by God to her eternal home before we were ready, Libby leaves family and friends whose lives she touched and filled with love, support, and kindness. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Trust for Public Land’s Community Schoolyards program in Philadelphia, in memory of Elizabeth Tobin for the creation of an outdoor classroom. Donations can be made online at or mailed to: Trust for Public Land, 1608 Walnut Street, Suite 302, Philadelphia, PA 19103. A graveside service will be conducted on Friday September 22nd at 2:00 P.M. in Oakwood Cemetery, South Hill, Virginia. Online condolences may be made through our website, Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the Tobin family.

  1. I was very sad to have received the news of Libby’s passing. It was always a delight for me to be in her presence every time she was in the room; full of joy and kindness. I spent many a sleepover with my Coleman cousins in South Hill. Libby will always hold a special memory in my heart. I extend my deepest sympathy to her husband, Brad and children, Mary Ann, Frankie and Johnny. I know God has a fine angel at home with Him. May you all remember the good times and love Libby brought to each person she knew.
    With heartfelt sympathy,

  2. My sincere condolences to Brad and all of their children and grandchildren, Mary Ann, Frankie and Johnny. Libby was the youngest of my first cousins. Her passing is a disbelief to all of us as we recall her childhood and are proud of her life.

  3. It is very difficult to read the obituary of Libby, my oldest and dearest childhood friend. We grew up side-by-side and arm-in-arm, experiencing our young lives together. I always thought we would reconnect and relive our past……
To Johnny, Frankie and Mary Ann, there are few words or thoughts that can comfort you at this time as Libby departs our lives, but imagine the joy and hoopla that Dr. John and Polly have experienced the last few days…….

All my love to each of you…..

  4. Love to Libby’s family

I’m so sad to hear of Libby’s passing. She was such a sweet and kind-hearted person. Growing up as her neighbor and cousin, I have many fond memories of her. God bless Brad, her children and grandchildren, Mary Ann, Frankie and Johnny with peace and comfort at this time. I love you all.
