Obituary:

Mr. Walter Girvis Farrar, Jr., age 81, of Baskerville, died on March 28, 2024 in his home. He was a retired employee of Park Oil Company. He was born in Retreat Hospital on March 28, 1943. Girvis was the son of the late Walter Girvis Farrar, Sr. and Eunice Newman Farrar. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Charles Farrar. Girvis is survived by his wife of forty years, Betty Farrar of Baskerville and his brother, Bobby Farrar and his wife Mary Ann of Baskerville. Running, traveling, beach life and caring for the environment were his passions. During his running days, he participated in over 500 races, including running in the New York marathon twice. Girvis loved his church, Bethany Baptist Church, his home, which he was born and raised in and his community. He was often seen picking up litter and cutting grass along the road in front of his home. A celebration of life service will be held on Friday April 5th at 11:00 A.M. in Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. until service time in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery fund, c/o Garth Proffitt, 90 Tucker Circle, Boydton, VA 23917.     Although there was a few years of age between Girvis and I he was a wonderful friend. Lots of good memories from penny poker in the packhouse, to Kerr Lake, to Daytona. I hope he rests in peace and for Betty and family my deepest sympathy. God bless you all.

    Sorry for your loss. Had not seen him since our park view days I was raised in the Baskerville area. God bless your family. I was Nancy Ebbert when I was a teenager

  3. We were classmates of Park View class of 1961. He was always a good friend and easy to know. I have many good memories of times together. May God bless Gurvis and Betty in this time of loss.
