Dorothy Sadler Roberts

Dorothy Sadler Roberts, age 94 of South Hill, died peacefully on May 12, 2024 at Westfield Rehabilitation & Health Center in Sanford, NC. Dorothy, “Dot” as she was affectionately known, was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Elwood R Roberts. Surviving are her two daughters, Linda R Fluke (John) of Germantown, MD and Gail R Thomas of Lillington, NC. Other survivors include two grandsons, Matthew Fluke and Travis Thomas, and a great-grandson, Jayden Fluke: many special nieces, nephews, and friends. Dot will be remembered for her love of family gatherings, having fun, and sewing. She was a unit Secretary at the former Community Memorial Hospital, a former employee for years at Oakley’s Department Store, as well as Julee's Boutique and a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00, Thursday, May 16, 2024 by Rev. Michael Blythe at Shiloh United Methodist Church with interment to follow in Crestview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 to 2:00 before the service. The family suggest memorial considerations be placed in her memory to Westfield Rehabilitation & Health Center, 3100 Tramway Rd, Sanford, NC 27332 or Liberty Homecare & Hospice Services, 1005 Carthage St., Sanford, NC 27331. I have sweet memories of working with Dot at CMH and when I stayed over night.
You and your families are in my prayers, may God comfort you.

Aunt Dot was a very caring and loving person. She and “Daddy” as she referred to Elwood, were meant for each other exemplified with their 69 years of marriage. She always reminded me of our sweet Granny Sadler with her soft spoken words and her love for family. They always had a nice garden which they shared with family and friends. Linda and I always enjoyed our visits in their home. Linda and Gail, we will be praying for comfort and peace for you and the entire family knowing Dot is in a better place as she and Elwood are joined together once again in their heavenly home.

Dot and Elwood were first class plus. I remember her from Oakleys and later she did some sewing for me. I made her some Bluegrass CD’s one time. She said she played them on the way to Henderson, got to patting her foot and next thing she knew she was running 80 mph. God bless her, Elwood, and your whole family. Lucky to have known them. One of my favorite people and just an inspiration to everyone who had the pleasure to work with her, and have her as a friend. She kept us all in line and we adored her.

I was so sorry to hear of Dot’s passing. Some of my fondest childhood memories were of being at y’all’s house when Mama and Daddy would come there to play Setback with the gang. I can still remember one of my favorite games that you had was “Operation!” I always thought you two had the coolest games to play. I remember playing “Cootie” when we were at my house!! Those were the days!! Another memory I have is when we were at your Granny Sadler’s house, I think. It was down Chaptico. The three of us were in the back yard playing and the river ran behind there. All of a sudden, we started hearing this voice, calling “Where, where”? Linda convinced us that it was Angie’s boyfriend looking for her.!!! We looked at each other and took off back to the house!! 🙈.
I remember working with Dot at Oakley’s on Saturdays when I was in high school. She was always so kind!! I have been thinking of you guys through prayers for peace and comfort in the days to come. I’m sorry I was unable to attend the service, but I had an out of town Dr. appointment that day at the same time! Hopefully, I will be able to catch up with you some time soon!

Dear Linda and Gail,
