Obituary:

John Pollard Jones Jr. (J.P.) of La Crosse, Virginia died in his home surrounded by loved ones at the age of 87 on the evening of July 1, 2024. He was born on March 7, 1937. J.P. was an avid farmer and a former owner of Jones's variety store. He was a past South Hill Chamber of Commerce president and former Lions Club member. Prior to owning his own business, he had worked for Rose's for 20 years. In high school, in Oxford, North Carolina, he would meet the love of his life, his wife, Yvonne Overton Jones of the home and his sweet heart of 68 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Pollard Jones Sr. and Grace, Sybil Smith Jones; sister Frances Page Nevels, and grandson Robert Bennett Pearce. He is survived by his wife of the home, Yvonne Overton Jones, and three loving daughters Pamelia Tudor (John) of Bracey, Virginia, Lorie Jones-Houghton ( Terence) of Lynn Haven, Florida, Shani Mathews (Charles) of South Hill, Virginia; five wonderful living grandchildren Charles Pearce (Erin) of South Hill, Virginia, Tyler Houghton (fiancé Emily) of Jacksonville, Florida, Caleb Houghton (fiancé Danielle) of Charlotte, North Carolina, Taryn Houghton of Blacksburg, Virginia and Logan Mathews of South Hill, Virginia; three great grandchildren Abigail Pearce, Daisy Chandler (Chris) and Caroline Pearce. And four precious great-great grands, Sadie Marie Pearce, Rian James Brown, Robert Aaron McCord, and Ryleigh Grace Williams. John's memorial service will be at Sardis Church, a place very dear to his heart, at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday July 6, 2024. Following this, a gathering of friends and family will be held at Sardis UMC social hall.

Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116-7023, American Heart Association at PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692., Masonic Home for Children in Oxford, North Carolina.
