Obituary:

Mrs. Patricia “Patsy” Matthews Bagley, born June 8, 1944, at Charlie Hope, Brunswick County, Virginia, died September 25, 2024, a resident of Bickford of Chesterfield, Midlothian, Virginia, where she had been a memory care patient for several year, under the care of Suncrest Hospice, Richmond, Virginia. She was predeceased by her husband, James W. “Jimmy” Bagley; her parents, James E. Matthews, Jr. and Elise T. Matthews; and her brother, James W. “Jim” Matthews. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Bonnie Matthews; her brother and sister-in-law, Warren and Faye Matthews; her stepchildren, Matt Bagley and Sydney Kelly; her niece, Jamie Hamric, and nephew, David Matthews. She was a graduate of Brunswick County High School and Madison College, now James Madison University, with a degree in Library Science. She was a former librarian for the Virginia Electric and Power Company, the Roanoke Times, Roanoke, Virginia, and the Sussex County, Virginia, Central Middle School. A graveside service will be held at the Kenbridge Heights Cemetery, 135 West Street, Kenbridge, Virginia, on Friday, October 11, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. The family will receive friends on location in the cemetery one hour prior to the service. The family acknowledges with grateful appreciation her friends and caregivers at both Bickford and Suncrest. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, Meredithville, Virginia, c/o its treasurer, 202 W. High Street, South Hill, Virginia 23970.
