Mrs. Mary Gledhill Davis
11/10/1935 - 09/25/2025
Mrs. Mary Frances Gledhill Davis, age 89, passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2025. She was born on November 10, 1935 in Dekalb County,Alabama to Charles and Annie Gledhill. She was one of 5 children; 3 boys and 2 girls. They have all since gone to be with the Lord.
At 18, she married John Dexter (JD) Davis in Rising Fawn, GA.
She spent her lifetime loving her family and friends. Her husband, children, and grandchildren were her entire world. She was a proud wife (up to and even after his passing in 2011), homemaker and stay-at-home mom to Donna Davis and Joe Davis. Donna went on to have one child, Erin (Hofler) Pearce, the only grandchild. Erin married Charlie Pearce. They gave Mary 3 great granddaughters, Abigail Pearce (married to Logan Williams), Daisy (Pearce) Chandler (married to Chris) & Mary Caroline Pearce. She loved each one of the girls as she loved her children and grandchild. Abigail has given Mary 4 great, great grandchildren: Sadie, Rian, Robert, & Ryleigh. She was always so excited to see each of them and loved how different they all are! Mary was a doting mother and grandmother even until her final days. She celebrated each of our achievements no matter how small & downplayed our failures.
She loved going to Joe’s basketball games and being a Girl Scout Troop Leader for Donna. Among many other activities with her children.
After her children were grown, she had an active social life. Mary, “Hanky” as she was lovingly known to her friends, and JD played golf, played bridge & tonk, went on vacations, and went out to many dinners with their tight-knit group of friends. She played golf well into her 60’s.
She enjoyed Erin’s diverse activities during her school years. And the great granddaughters playing softball and school activities! She even babysat the firstborn great great granddaughter!
She has never acted her age. She enjoyed being outside planting flowers, walking barefoot in the grass, or just sitting on her deck. She was an avid reader who read more books in her lifetime than most. Mary enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves and the PGA golf tour.
Mary is survived by family listed above, sister-in-law, Linda Gledhill, and a host of loving nieces and nephews.
Mary will be deeply missed by everyone who was blessed to know her, especially those of us who call her Mama and Granny. We have been so very blessed to have her in our lives especially for this many years. Not many families are blessed to have 5 generations for 8 years.
Celebration of Life & interment will be private and held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her name to Friends of The RT Arnold Library, P.O. Box 102, South Hill, VA 23970. Online condolences may be made through our website at www.crowderhitecrews.com. Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the Davis family.
