Mr. Robert Stanley "Bob" McGarvey

Mr. Robert Stanley “Bob” McGarvey, 74, of South Hill, passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at VCU/MCV Medical Center in Richmond. Bob proudly retired as a Chief Master Sergeant (E-9) from the United States Air Force after 27 years of distinguished service, attaining the highest enlisted rank. His military career spanned pivotal moments in history, including the Gulf War and Operation Desert Shield, reflecting his steadfast dedication to his country and his fellow Airmen. Following his retirement from the Air Force, Bob continued his commitment to service as a civilian employee with the United States Army and later worked as a regional supervisor for Schneider Trucking Company. In retirement, Bob enjoyed going to the gym and visiting local establishments, where he never met a stranger and formed many lasting friendships. He also had a special fondness for cats and cherished his beloved pets. Bob is survived by his devoted wife, Cheryl McGarvey; his three sons, Jeremy McGarvey (Anna) of Chesterfield, Zachary McGarvey of Mechanicsville, and Josh McGarvey (Dani Carrier) of Chesterfield; his daughter, Kem Martin (Bob) of Sebastian, Florida; his mother, Lillian B. McGarvey of Fredericksburg; four grandchildren, Bryant McGarvey, Ashton Meade, Morgan McGarvey, and Drew McGarvey; two brothers, Michael McGarvey of Mount Airy, North Carolina, and Daniel McGarvey of Orlando, Florida; as well as his cherished pets and many dear friends from the gym and around town. He was preceded in death by his father, Elbert Stanley McGarvey, Jr.; his brother, John McGarvey; and his sister, Barbara Anne Smith. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory with full American Legion Post 79 Military Honors. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lake Country SPCA.
